Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Basin Cruiser?
Our 6-passenger private charter — the most intimate way to see Stone Harbor’s back bay. Smaller than the Stone Harbor Charter, more personal than anything else on the water around here. Perfect for date nights, anniversaries, milestone birthdays, or a small family cruise. Your USCG-licensed captain runs the boat through the bayfront mansions, hidden coves, and the marshes only locals know. Beverages, speaker, and captain all included.
Is the Basin Cruiser right for our group?
Six guests max, full stop — that’s the moat. If you’re a couple, a small family, or a tight group of friends who want privacy and conversation, this is your boat. If you’ve got seven or more, you need the Stone Harbor Charter. We won’t squeeze an extra person on — six guests is what keeps the experience intimate instead of crowded.
Do we have to plan the route before we book?
Not at all. Book the time, board the boat, tell your captain what you feel like doing — sunset ride, run down to Cape May, stop at The Lazy Bass, just cruise the back bay. Day-of works fine, mid-trip works fine, “we have no idea, you decide” works fine. The only thing that helps is a heads-up if you want a specific destination that needs real time (Cape May), so we can pace it right. Otherwise, just show up.
Can we actually get to Cape May or Wildwood in two hours?
Yes, but here’s how it works honestly. The Basin Cruiser is small and quick — once we’re out of the no-wake zone, your captain can open her up and run you down to Port or The Lobster House in Cape May with time to spare. The Lazy Bass in North Wildwood is the easiest run — relaxed pace the whole way. The Wharf is fast one way, slower coming back. Tell us where you want to go when you book and we’ll set the pace honestly.
What’s included, and what should we bring?
Adult beverages, ice, a speaker for your music, and your captain are all included — no surprises at the dock. BYOB is welcome if you want something specific we don’t stock. For food, the easiest move is to grab takeout before you board — the boat is moving and food gets messy fast. Sunscreen, a hat, and a phone for photos cover the rest.
When’s the best time to book — sunset or daytime?
Both work for different reasons. Sunset cruises (the last 90 minutes before dusk) are the most popular — calm water, golden light, the back bay at its prettiest. Daytime is better if you want to actually see the territory, spot osprey nests, or run down to Cape May with time to spare. Tell us what you want when you book and we’ll time it right.
What’s your cancellation and weather policy?
If we cancel for weather, you reschedule at no charge — captain’s call on water conditions, always. If you need to cancel or reschedule on your end, do it more than 24 hours before your session and there’s no charge. Cancellations or no-shows inside 24 hours are charged the full session rate. We send multiple reminders with easy cancellation options so you’ve got every chance to let us know.
